Description
The chimney puffed out a soft thread of smoke, pale and slow, curling into an ochre sky. Behind it, the house stood as if waiting—wooden, rooted, wrapped in climbing vines now turning amber. The barn beside it slept in sun-dappled silence, its doors barely ajar, revealing shadows and hay.
Leaves tumbled across the yard, gold and russet and firelight red. Trees gathered close like old friends, some bent, some bold, painting the hills in shades of memory. On the winding path, a small group of people walked—not in haste, but with the rhythm of conversation and dust. From this distance, they were faceless—like the past: familiar, faded, comforting.
A horse-drawn carriage rumbled slowly past the barn, its two wheels creaking with years. The horse’s mane flickered in the breeze, and its steps matched the slow heart of the land. Nothing hurried here. Even the lake, lying quiet on the lower edge, held the stillness like a breath it refused to release.
This scene was not captured—it was lived. Perhaps on a day when the air smelled of apples, and someone folded linens near the fire, and the world felt closer to the earth. I have stitched not just a place—but a moment between moments. A countryside wrapped in time, where even silence seems to hum.
